Tomaree Community Hospital Auxiliary
Our group of dedicated volunteers focuses on raising funds to support our local hospital and the health services. While we do not volunteer directly within the hospital due to its specialised nature, our work plays an important role in ensuring the hospital and associated health facilities have the equipment they need to support patient care.
Being part of this statewide Auxiliary (UHA) offers both meaningful challenges and lasting friendships.
Over 3,600 dedicated volunteer members across NSW raise funds which are then used to purchase much-needed equipment and items for their facilities.
1953
First Fund Raising
Mrs Edna Thompson & the CWA held a Hospital ball to raise funds for a new hospital
1955
Hospital Committee
Mrs Edna Thompson becomes apart of a committee to raise funds for hospital furnishings
1956
Hospital Opened
The Nelson Bay & District Community Hospital opened with the support of the Rotary club and CWA
1988
Polyclinic Opened
The Auxiliary was formed by a group of 30 residents, initially called Friends of the Polyclinic
